The COVID-19 pandemic has been a global scourge but it will not be the last; other novel pathogens will undoubtedly emerge. Like SARS-CoV-2, some will be highly transmissible as aerosols. In response to the need for broader access to effective bioaerosol samplers, we have developed the new BioSpot-GEM™ sampler, which is affordable, portable and quiet. Intended for field bio-surveillance (in hospitals, dental offices, nursing homes, schools, and transportation centers and more) this sampler can easily be used by indoor air quality professionals, health and safety officers, as well as bioaerosol experts.
The BioSpot-GEM™ sampler uses a new approach to sampling bioaerosols using condensation growth tube (CGT) capture. The unique advantages of the CGT are:
- high collection efficiency (>95% of particles from <10 nm to 10 µm);
- instant genomic preservation of DNA/RNA upon capture;
- concentrated sample collection compatible with standard genomic analyses such as RT-qPCR and DNA/RNA sequencing;
- The work flow for sample analysis is identical to that used in diagnostic testing of nasal swabs.
Agenda:
- We will discuss the difficulties of bioaerosol sampling and how our CGT technique improves the easy and the quality of sampling;
- We will demonstrate the new BioSpot-GEM bioaerosol sampler, and share test data that supports it effectiveness in collecting small particles, including viruses;
- Q&A.
